Plotting on a Cartesian plane the value of sinα\sin\alpha and cosα\cos\alpha as α\alpha varies, one obtains two wavy curves, the sinusoids.

The graphs of sinx\sin x and cosx\cos x between 2π-2\pi and 2π2\pi. Both oscillate between 1-1 and +1+1, with period 2π2\pi.

The graph of cos\cos is the graph of sin\sin translated by π/2\pi/2 to the left: cosα=sin(α+π/2)\cos\alpha = \sin(\alpha+\pi/2). The sin\sin is odd (sin(α)=sinα\sin(-\alpha)=-\sin\alpha, graph symmetric about the origin), the cos\cos is even (cos(α)=cosα\cos(-\alpha)=\cos\alpha, symmetric about the yy axis).
