Up to Year Two we measured angles in sexagesimal degrees: a convenient choice for everyday life but arbitrary from a mathematical point of view. In Year Four we move to a more natural unit, the radian, defined as the ratio between the length of an arc and the radius. We see how to convert from degrees to radians and why this unit makes all the formulae of analysis simpler.
