Domain and vertical asymptote. The argument must be positive: x+1>0⟺x>−1. The vertical asymptote is the line x=−1.
Behaviour. The coefficient +1 of the logarithm makes the function increasing; as x→−1+ we have y→−∞.
Useful points:
- x+1=21⇒x=−21, y=1−1=0;
- x+1=1⇒x=0, y=1;
- x+1=2⇒x=1, y=1+1=2.
