By combining Pythagoras’ theorem with similarity we obtain the theorems of Euclid: relations between the sides of a right-angled triangle and the segments created by the altitude on the hypotenuse. The altitude relative to the hypotenuse divides the triangle into two triangles similar to the original one, and from this similarity all the proportions follow.
