Operations with algebraic fractions follow the same rules as numerical fractions. To add or subtract several fractions, first factorise all the denominators, determine their least common multiple and reduce each fraction to the same common denominator. At that point it is enough to work on the numerators.
When the same unknown appears in the denominator we speak of a fractional equation: before solving it, it is essential to impose the existence conditions, excluding the values that make any of the denominators zero. Only the solutions compatible with the E.C. are acceptable.
