List all prime numbers below $60$ and state how many there are.

Solution

With the sieve of Eratosthenes we cross out the multiples of $2, 3, 5, 7$ (the primes up to $\sqrt{60}\approx 7.7$). What remains: $2,\;3,\;5,\;7,\;11,\;13,\;17,\;19,\;23,\;29,\;31,\;37,\;41,\;43,\;47,\;53,\;59.$ There are $\boxed{17}$ primes in total.
